You attempted to open a database that is already open exclusively by user ’Admin’

When running a Schedule or Real-Time Monitor, the task cancels with the following error in the Application Event Log:

SureSync: You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user ’Admin’ on machine ’[machinename]’. Try again when the database is available. An internal application error has occurred.

This error message only occurs with Access databases. This message can occur when another process like a real-time anti-virus scanner is locking the database to scan the file at the same time that SureSync needs access to the database. The first recommendation is to exclude the folder that your SureSync Access database is stored in from any virus scanners and see if that resolves the issue.

If that does not solve the problem, we have seen instances where this error occurs for no clear reason. This appears to be a bug in Access that impacts some computers and not others. If you continue to encounter this error, you should convert to a SQL Express database. The SQL database structure does not have this issue and generally performs better. Instructions for moving to SQL can be found here.
